We’re pleased to announce our next intensive samba drumming course starting in March 2019.
COURSE CONTENT
The course will look at covering the rhythms and techniques required to play the main instruments in a Rio style samba band – Surdos, Caixa, Repinique, Tamborim & Chocalho. All instruments will be provided.
It will be held on 3 consecutive Sundays starting at the end of March, with each session lasting 3.5hours.
As a bonus, we will also make a low key public performance alongside members of Bloco 3K the following Sunday (weather dependent).
The class is suited for all levels of experience, where each participant will be pushed to learn more and achieve realistic goals. The aim of the course is for each participant to learn the basics of each instrument, before specialising on one towards the end of the course. This will give a holistic understanding to how each part comes together.
Teaching the course will be the Director of Bloco 3K and Unidos da Cacatua, Rob Arcari.
Rob will have just returned from Rio where he is parading in Carnaval 2019. After 6 weeks studying and performing in Brazil’s capital, he’s excited and full of new tricks. Rob has been teaching Samba and other forms of percussion for more than 15 years across Europe and Australia.
WHERE AND WHEN
Lessons will take place in Melbourne’s CBD from 13:30 – 17:00 on 24th March, 31st March & 7th April 2019.
