During this session Rob Arcari will be looking at the 3×1 technique for playing tamborim. We will start by establishing a clear understanding of the differences between this technique, and the 2×1 technique previously discussed. Then we will go from the beginning, looking at how to use this technique to play carreteiro slowly, before speeding up and adding some fun exercises.
For this session you will ideally use a tamborim and flexible stick. If you don’t have these, or it’s too loud to play at home, then we can improvise. For the tamborim, the best option is a pvc pipe end cap like this one or a tamborim with a silent head, otherwise a book or something would do. For the stick, you can make do with a regular drumsitck for this technique, or people have suggested certain types of hose piping, bits of coat hangers, glue sticks… you’ll make it work.
